Andy update V

Well, Andy has been home for just over two weeks. Hard to believe it has been that long. The past two months have blurred together. Time has stood still and then slipped away quickly so many times, I can't keep it all straight. I am more than a bit raw from it all, I have to admit.

Andy was officially taken off his antibiotics last Wednesday, almost two weeks earlier than predicted. He was glad to get his central line (that's a permanent IV line in the chest) removed, and I was glad to not be administering IVs every day (even though the home nurses thought I did great--go me). The last of his stitches were removed that same day, and Andy's comfort level increased greatly. He can now stretch and move without the stitches pulling, rubbing and otherwise making life miserable. He has some gnarly scars on that leg! I still keep close tabs on it, and the wounds are healing well; no sign of redness, swelling or heat.

Andy is, in fact, feeling so well, he is starting back to work this week--just part-time (very, very part-time). He walks with a cane now, though I'm sure it won't take him long to get rid of it. He is quite faithful about his physical therapy.

The kids and I are all getting back to normal. The Ward here has been a blessing beyond anything we could have imagined! They have taken care of us so well! It is such a relief to not have to worry about making dinner most days. :) Although, now that the stitches and IVs are gone, I have to admit that my days aren't as hectic and crazy as they were this time last week. Lizzie is thrilled to once again have her favorite seat in the house back (that's Andy's lap). I have suddenly found myself exhausted beyond belief; my body trying to make up for so much lost sleep, I'm sure. Nate is happy to be back at school with his ever-growing group of friends.

I cannot express how blessed we feel. I can't seem to stop reaching over to touch Andy whenever he is near, reassuring myself, I guess, that he is there. And he, for once, doesn't complain, but patiently takes my hand and gently strokes it. We hug each other and the kids more. "I love you" is spoken often, every single day, quietly and sincerely. I always knew I was blessed with an amazing husband and wonderful kids, but one never quite realizes how fragile our mortal existance is--at least, I didn't. What a great blessing families are! What a precious gift our spouses are! It is glorious to me that I can go through life with my best friend at my side--and not just this life, but the next as well.

My cup runneth over. And my blog ceases to make sense. :) Big shout out to all our friends and family all over the country who were thinking of us and sending up mighty prayers on our behalf! We haven't forgotten you, and love you all so much!

P.S. Our computer is broken, so drop us a phone call if you want news! We hope to have another computer up and running by next week. Until then, I have to stay late at work to check e-mail, blog, etc. :)
